RFID for livestock farming — electronic herd tracking and traceability

Electronic animal identification on the farm: an individual number for every head, herd tracking, veterinary records and traceability from farm to processing.

RFID for livestock farming: herd tracking on the farm

RFID for livestock farming is the electronic identification of every animal in a herd: instead of a visual number on a tag that fades over time, each animal carries a unique code that is read automatically. This closes the biggest gap in farm record-keeping — the manual headcount — and turns herd data into a digital format: an accurate head count, veterinary records tied to a number and a movement history.

In Uzbekistan, a law on mandatory identification and registration of animals has been in force since 7 August 2026. It names visual tags, microchips or combined tags with a unique code as identification methods. A detailed breakdown of the law and the identification methods is in "Mandatory animal identification: tags, microchips, coded marks".

Herd-record tasks on a livestock farm

Herd records on a farm are usually kept in paper logs and staff memory, which creates a familiar set of problems:

  • a manual head count takes hours and produces gaps between the physical and recorded herd size;
  • visual numbers on tags fade, wear off or break, forcing an animal to be re-identified;
  • veterinary records — vaccinations, treatments, examinations — are kept in a shared log and only loosely tied to a specific animal;
  • confirming an animal's origin and history quickly at sale or purchase is difficult;
  • there is no single movement history for an animal between farms, pastures and business units;
  • staff turnover or seasonal hiring wipes out informal knowledge about the herd that was never written down anywhere.

What RFID gives a livestock farm

An electronic tag with a unique code solves these tasks technically. We install RFID ear tags for livestock — they are read contactlessly and do not depend on whether a visual inscription is still legible. A reader captures the animal's number at a race, on the scales or during an exam, which removes manual-entry errors. So the data does not stay only in a field notebook, we set up integration with 1C and the farm's record systems — captured numbers sync automatically with accounting and feed-warehouse records, without re-entering them by hand.

The result for the farm

After electronic identification goes live, the farm gets an individual record for every animal — with a tied history of exams, treatments and movements. Recounting the herd on the farm or before a drive takes minutes instead of hours, and herd data stays current without depending on any one employee's memory. When an animal is sold or products are processed, its origin is easy to trace from farm to endpoint — the traceability that partners and processors in Uzbekistan increasingly expect. Farm managers gain a single source of truth for the herd instead of several disconnected paper records.

Pricing is calculated per project — the configuration depends on herd size and the farm's tasks. Request a consultation and we will help you choose a solution for electronic herd tracking. The ear tags themselves for cattle and small ruminants can be ordered from our partner: ear-tag supply in Uzbekistan — ERKSONS.
